Retirement of Carmela Gumelli
Carmela Gumelli鈥檚 last day at Dawson is Friday, March 28.聽 She is retiring after 20 years of service at 张百乔女友裸照. After working as a teacher, program coordinator and campus director at a private college, Carmela joined Dawson in 2005 as Manager of Admissions and Scheduling. She later served as Coordinator of Academic Systems before becoming Dean of Academic Systems in 2014. In 2021, Carmela served as Interim Academic Dean.
“Working with Carmela has been a privilege,” said Academic Dean Leanne Bennett. “She led with dedication, always keeping students at the heart of every decision. Her impact over the past 20 years has shaped our college for the better, and she will be truly missed!”
Director General Diane Gauvin said: 鈥淐armela has played a tremendous role at Dawson, leading a large team of people who deal with the complex issues of Academic Systems, responding to the needs of incoming, current and graduating students. She has worked with virtually everyone at the College, in every category of employee, sharing her knowledge and experience and providing guidance. She will be missed, but we know she has instilled in her team the same level of service and care. She leaves us in good hands.鈥
The Communications Office interviewed Carmela about her time at Dawson.
What major changes have you seen in the registrar’s office during your tenure?
Carmela Gumelli: Since starting in 2005, I have seen a lot of changes: conversion of paper applications to an online application form in admissions and implementation of the Applications Portal, the change in student pedagogical system with the implementation of Clara and Omnivox (in 2009), the complete digitization of all our student records, complete renovation of the Registrar鈥檚 Office in 2018, a major reorganization of all of our registration processes, the introduction of Workload module in Omnivox for staffing, implementation of all the changes related to Law 14, major program revisions and in general, a more student-centered approach to providing services.
What are you most proud of?聽
CG: The great team we have in the Registrar鈥檚 Office 鈥 a group of dedicated and hard-working individuals.
What do you see as the biggest challenges facing the registrar’s office in the coming years?
CG: The ever-increasing demands put on some of our services, the continued stresses of Law 14 and all its impacts.
What are your plans for retirement?
CG: Rest, in the short term.聽Taking care of myself!
What will you miss most about Dawson?
CG: The people and the great sense of community. I will also miss the challenges that the job brought on a daily basis鈥opefully I will find things to keep my mind sharp when retired.
How has your role as registrar impacted your personal and professional growth?
CG: I have developed stronger leadership skills earning the respect of both my peers at Dawson and in the network.
What advice would you give to someone starting their career in higher education administration?
CG: The work can be very challenging but also very rewarding.聽Time management is key in order to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
