New training available for prevention of sexual violence

All employees and students must take the new training on the prevention of sexual violence, which is now available on . Annual training is a legal obligation set out by the Government of Quebec and in accordance with Dawson鈥檚 Policy on Sexual Violence.

Dawson now has three different training modules so that employees and students who must all take one training every year can rotate through different topics.

The new training is called Recognize attitudes, change behaviours. In various aspects of society, there are attitudes and behaviours that encourage, minimize or trivialize sexual violence and which are said to be normal or 鈥渉armless鈥. This concept is commonly referred to as 鈥渞ape culture.鈥

When left unchallenged, this normalization leads to apathy towards, and even acceptance of, various forms of sexual violence. In this module, participants will examine the workings of this normalization, discuss the consequences it has on society, and learn how to intervene in the presence of such behaviours through scenario-based exercises.

The module is offered in English and in French. Please note that Moodle will show that it is 50% complete when you complete the course in your choice of language. Do not be concerned, 50% means you have met your legal obligation; you do not need to complete the training in two languages.

You may access the training here:

The three trainings are available to all in Moodle. The succession of the courses is as follows:

  • It takes all of us
  • Systems of oppression and intersectionality
  • Recognize attitudes, change behaviors
