New System to Report Accidents and Incidents on Campus
Facilities Management has launched its new Accident/Incident Report Form on Omnivox. In keeping with ongoing improvements to health and safety planning at the College, FAMA unveiled the Omnivox form after beta testing and refining the process in collaboration with Dawson鈥檚 Health and Safety Committee. What was once a printable form on the Dawson website is now a comprehensive submission system where accidents and incidents can be reported, then compiled and organized in a more efficient manner.
In the event that a member of the Dawson community is involved in a situation that warrants security intervention, or results in an injury or near-injury, they can now submit a report directly through their Omnivox portal. It allows for a quicker response time, as users can simply complete the form on their computer or smart phone鈥檚 Omnivox app. Security investigations depend on timely receipt of information and responders will now receive the incident details immediately upon submission.
Once submitted, the person reporting will receive an autoreply message listing appropriate resources in case the circumstances of the situation warrant support beyond what is offered by Security. The system鈥檚 improvement was initiated by discussions with Dawson Student Union executive officers Leila Pozzi (VP Sustainability & Equity) and Victoria Ormiston (VP Academic Affairs & Advocacy), who made valuable suggestions about how such a system could be optimized for students while improving safety on campus.
Development and fine-tuning took place in February and the system was soft launched in March. Its development progressed with the help of the Dawson IT Solutions team, including Web Developer Ahmad Sirawan, who ensured that the system was user-friendly and accessible. Patrick Khoueiry, Associate Director of FAMA, hopes that incidents and accidents can be avoided, but if they do occur, he鈥檚 pleased that the system is in place to hasten follow-up. He is also confident that the new approach will allow easier data collection so that improvements can be made when problem areas on campus are identified though the data collected.
