An invitation to connect and learn

Share

Teaching can often feel like a solitary profession. It can be easy to lose motivation or inspiration while alone in your office or at home preparing lessons plans, designing assignments, or grading assessments. If you’re looking for ways to connect more with your peers and to learn and grow together, we invite you to participate in a brand-new initiative for 2025-26: Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs).

Joining an FLC will allow you to participate in regular, informal get-togethers with an interdisciplinary group of teachers and professionals and discuss a topic relevant to your interests and your teaching. The focus is on community—feeling like you are part of something bigger—that you are supported, challenged, and integral to the success of the group. The social aspect of the get-togethers is integral to sparking positive change in your teaching practice, and—by extension—in your students’ lives. We are excited to offer 5 new FLCs launching for 2025-26:

  • ContEd with Care: Feedback Tools for Stress-Free Student Success. (for ContEd or Early Career Faculty) Facilitated by Felix Fuchs (English).
  • Beyond the Echo Chamber: Tools for Teaching Journalism and Media Literacy. (for all disciplines) Facilitated by Michael Filtz (Cinema-Communications)
  • Enjeux/Thematic Issues Teaching Community. (for Enjeux/Thematic Issues teachers) Facilitated by Cornelia Howell (Anthropology)
  • Designing an interdisciplinary science integrative project course. (for Science teachers) Facilitated by Hélène Nadeau (Physics)
  • Immersive Pedagogy: Transforming Education with VR. (for all disciplines) Facilitated by Selma Hamdani (Psychology)

If you’re interested in signing up or learning more, please see our info page and call for participants or message us at FLC@dawsoncollege.qc.ca. In addition to faculty, FLCs warmly welcomes participation from interested professionals as well.

Sincerely,

The FLC Steering Committee (Jeff Gandell, Selma Hamdani, Chantale Giguere, Cathy Roy, Robert Stephens, Julia Lijeron)
