Interactive website helps you identify bird songs

May 18th, 2021

With many of us spending time at home, it can be a peaceful activity to observe which birds are dropping by our backyards and windows.

Perhaps you are wondering about the birds you hear as well.

There is a great website that features an illustration of many common birds in our area. You can click on a bird and hear its song as well as see its name.

Two of the birds you can hear are the Wood Thrush and the Chestnut-sided Warbler, featured in St茅phanie Aubin's Illustration class artwork, which we featured in the last D News.聽

These two birds, which overwinter in Nicaragua, where Dawson is planting trees to offset our carbon footprint, are supposed to be returning to Montreal around this time of year.

Earth Week report

May 4th, 2021

The Sustainability Office, in collaboration with departments at Dawson, enjoyed hosting two weeks of Earth Week events from April 19-30, 2021.

Events included:

  • Spring beehive opening
  • Climate action panel
  • Environmental racism
  • Eco-anxiety short plays
  • Well-being hobbies
  • Bike workshop
  • Illustration project showcase
  • Dawson hidden world tour
  • and many more!

Although our in-person plans had to be adapted, we were still able to touch on all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our 20 presentations and events attracted close to 400 participants both within the Dawson community and externally.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions we could not have gatherings, therefore, Sustainability Office staff and interns planted 300+ vegetable and herb seedlings and recorded the Spring beehive opening.

We want to thank the Earth Week planning committee, Dawson faculty, support staff and students who led activities throughout the weeks. Although Earth Week is done, we encourage everyone to continue the conversations and raising awareness on all the issues discussed.

Please support our local eco-friendly vendors by shopping here!

You can also purchase donated student Artwork: /sustainable/wp-content/uploads/sites/175/Student-Earth-Week-Art-Sale2.pdf

All funds raised will go towards the Peace Garden fund of the 张百乔女友裸照 Foundation.

Both links will be accessible throughout the month of May - great ideas for Mother鈥檚 Day gifts!
