Snow, freezing rain and other inclement weather plans at Dawson

November 17th, 2021

With the arrival of the first snowflakes this week, it seemed like a good time to let you know how we will communicate with employees, students and the public if there is a severe weather forecast or a decision is taken to cancel classes and close the campus.

All Dawson employees would be informed by an email to their Dawson email account from the Communications Office to All Dawson. If the campus is closed for a day, most employees would not be expected to work from home. If the situation is prolonged, the College would provide further instructions.

Giving Tuesday is Nov. 30

November 17th, 2021

Giving Tuesday is a global movement that encourages individuals to support their favourite cause and make an impact in their community. The date of Giving Tuesday this year is Nov. 30, but the benefits of giving last all year.

鈥淚 have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.鈥 (Maya Angelou)

Dawson has participated in this activity in the past with great success. This year, we are launching a program for giving that not only helps various members of our community and supports community-building projects, but one that also touches our hearts.

On Tuesday, Nov. 23, we will begin a one-week countdown to Giving Tuesday on our social media channels:

Dawson is a giving community by nature, rising above even the challenges posed by the pandemic. Our generosity knows no bounds!

Student-initiated Atwater Community Pantry fills a void

November 3rd, 2021

The pandemic brought food insecurity to the fore after job losses, isolation and uncertainty about the future. A group of Dawson students who saw the hardship firsthand by volunteering at the soup kitchen Resilience on the corner of Ste-Catherine and Atwater seized on an idea to create another avenue for food distribution that was anonymous, non-judgmental, accessible at all hours and throughout the four seasons.

Thank you Team Open House 2021

November 3rd, 2021

Dawson鈥檚 Open House 2021 was reimagined this year to help visitors experience the best version of the College and all it has to offer. We achieved record-breaking attendance by keeping the best elements of the first online Open House in 2020 and introducing new features and in-person tours for the first time since 2019.

Gone were the one-hour waits to have questions answered and navigating a hot, loud and crowded building. This year the maximum wait time for a question was not more than 2-3 minutes during the chat sessions for Open House on Oct. 24. Team Dawson Open House 2021 made sure the event was useful, smooth and pleasant for everyone.

Director General Diane Gauvin and Academic Dean Robert Cassidy would like to thank the more than 150 faculty members, current students and deans as well as managers, professionals and support staff from the Registrar's Office, the Communications Office, the Sustainability Office, Information Systems and Technology, Student Services, the Office of Academic Development and more.

Special thanks to Carey-Ann Pawsey, Jennifer de Vera, Lucy Segal, Ivana Bonaduce, Catherine Fusk, Marien Griffin, Dianne Hawryluck, Irene Kakoulakis, Antonina Nobile, Michele Pallett, Julie Pellegrino, Madalina Radu, Jane Valihora, Diane Wong, Carmela Gumelli, Julie Brosseau, Laura Paterson, Tommy Diamantakos, Maxwell Jones, Myl猫ne Saucier, Dana Dragomir, Donna Varrica, Christina Parsons, Jonathan Perlman, Chris Georgieff, Pat Phutthavong, Virginia Law.

Sept. 13 was 15th anniversary and day of remembrance at Dawson

September 15th, 2021

Sept. 13 was聽the 15th anniversary of the Dawson shooting. On Sept. 13, 2006, student Anastasia De Sousa lost her life, others were injured and many experienced trauma. For those who survived, including teachers and employees who still work at Dawson, the anniversary remains a difficult day. The Peace Garden (on campus near the corner of Sherbrooke and Wood) was established in memory of Anastasia. It was the site of quiet reflection on Monday: /news/dawson-community/today-marks-the-15th-anniversary-of-the-shooting-at-dawson-college/

Everyone in Montreal remembers that day and Dawson was in the news:
