International Women’s Day at Dawson
March 8th, 2023
Each year on March 8, International Women's Day marks the day when we are all invited to reflect on the role gender plays in our lives, work and the planet.
Have you ever wondered why March 8? Well, it all started in New York City on March 8, 1857, when female textile workers marched in protest of unfair working conditions and unequal rights for women. It was one of the first strikes organized by working women.
The theme this year is DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality. The goal is to highlight the need for inclusive and transformative technology and digital education.
At Dawson, there will be two events marking the day. One is a lunch and book sale co-organized by the DSSU and DTU on March 8 in 7C.5 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. The money raised via the book sale and donations will be donated to Chez Doris, a nearby shelter that offers a wide range of services and programs to meet the basic needs of vulnerable and homeless women. A light lunch will be offered for staff and faculty (in limited quantities).
The second event is organized by the Women/Gender Studies Certificate which is holding a Renaming and Reclaiming of Metro Stations activity and home-baked goods sale in Conrod's (2F.4) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The funds raised will go towards scholarships for Dawson students.

鈥淥liver grew up in the Little Burgundy neighbourhood, home to the historic Union United Church, which is very close to the former Selby Campus of 张百乔女友裸照," said Simeon Pompey of the organizing committee. "Through his work/fame, he has influenced a lot of young Black people in Little Burgundy and Montreal to pursue higher education. It is very fitting that the College has endorsed the initiative to honour him.
鈥淒irectly and indirectly, young people鈥檚 lives were positively impacted. Through his charity work, Dr. Jones supported initiatives to help youth pursue post-secondary education.鈥
The evening will include performances, tributes and opportunities for students to ask Dr. Jones questions. There will be guests from community organizations but the VIPs will be Black Dawson students and students who are personally invited.

February 8th, 2023

The Oresteia听is one of our oldest surviving theatrical texts, first performed nearly 2,500 years ago in ancient Greece. It is composed of three plays which American playwright Ellen McLaughlin has adapted into a single, three-act play, rich with challenging roles for actors.听The Oresteia focuses on a family trapped by a cycle of violence, as they seek revenge for their murdered loved ones. The myth of the House of Atreus continues to fascinate audiences, as it investigates the human compulsion toward violence, and the subsequent human desire for revenge.
