Historical and Cultural Tour of Kahnawake f2018
September 25th, 2018The students of the learning communities class Counting the Cost: Social Justice in Canada? will have the opportunity to visit the community of Kahnawake. This field trip has been designed and organized by Diane Labelle, the Director of The First Nation Regional Adult Education Center.
Students will be participants on a cultural and historical tour of Kahnawake provided by educator Harley Delaronde. For many students this will be their first time on an indigenous reserve and will provide an invaluable learning experience.
Project Update
Students took a bus from Dawson to The First Nation Regional Adult Education Center in Kahnawake where they met their guide, Harley Delaronde. Because it was pouring with rain, they took a driving tour of the community where Harley talked about its history and answered questions. Later, students stopped for an extended visit to the cultural centre where they toured the museum exhibit.
