DrJes 2018-19

2018-19

The Dawson Research Journal of Experimental Science (DrJes) is a publication that seeks to disseminate student research in print form. It provides students with an early introduction to the scientific method and to the business of science. Articles are based on developing a hypothesis, conducting experiments to test the hypothesis and formulating a conclusion. The articles are published after undergoing evaluation by referees who are experts in the field. Volume 1 of DrJes was issued in 1999 and at that time was the first journal of its kind in North America. It was cited in a book by Robert L, Wolke, What Einstein Told his Cook, aa 鈥渁 most impressive journal that publishes papers of original, professional-quality research by undergraduate students at 张百乔女友裸照, in Montreal Quebec.鈥 Former editors-in-chief have gone on to found similar journals at McGill University and Cornell University.

The journal is (almost) entirely student-run.

Project Update

The process is intended to introduce science students to the way that scientific research is conducted. After the actual research is carried out, the research papers are submitted to the editorial board by the authors. The editors decide if the articles are worthy of further consideration. If the decision is favorable, the editors will correct the grammar and reformat the style to conform to the standard DrJes Stylesheet (presentation format) and solicit the opinion of an expert in the field. The referee advises the editorial board on the quality of the submission and makes a recommendation on whether or not to publish. When a critical mass of articles have been obtained, the articles are made publication ready by producing the graphical layout and the printing is done. Finally, copies of the completed journal is distributed to the National Archives of Canada, select Dawson administrators, all science faculty, the authors and editors.
