Canadian Undergraduate Math Conference 2017

July 19th - 23rd, 2017

This is a country-wide, student run conference organized every year at different institutions across the country. The is locally organized and is run under the supervision of the Canadian Mathematical Society Student Committee (Studc). This conference is an opportunity for students to explore mathematics outside their usual surroundings and spark their interest in areas they have not yet been exposed to. It consists of a series of talks given by students and University Professors. The conference therefore provides a unique chance for students to present what they find most fascinating and exciting, as well as to practice their expository skills in an inclusive and noncompetitive environment.

This year, the CUMC is in Montreal! Dawson will send 5 students accompanied by one faculty chaperone. Three of the Dawson students attending will also present at the conference. This will not only encourage these students but will give them valuable experience in the world of research mathematics. At the CUMC, the students will learn more about research in Mathematics and will be able to network; meet top professors and other keen University students in Mathematics.

Project Update

The cost of the Registration increased this year to $100 per student. We had anticipated sending 5 students, however, only 3 confirmed and attended the conference. One faculty member also attended. All three students had performed independent research in math during the academic year, conducting highly complex research and learning quite a bit.  Two of the students that attended the conference presented their work in the form of a PowerPoint. We should be very proud of them.
