Canadian Undergraduate Math Conference 2016

July 13th - 17th, 2016

This is a country-wide, student run conference organized every year at different institutions across the country. The CUMC is locally organized and is run under the supervision of the Canadian Mathematical Society Student Committee (Studc). This conference is an opportunity for students to explore mathematics outside their usual surroundings and spark their interest in areas they have not yet been exposed to. It consists of a series of talks given by students and University Professors.

After speaking with the attending Professors, Dawson participating at the CUMC in Victoria was an enormous success! Not only did we have 4 students attend the conference, we had 2 of those students (Ayoub El Hanchi & Sam Fisher) present independent research in math. Our Dawson presenters received very high praise! Professor Rodney Acteson noted that the 2 best presentations he saw at the entire conference was 1-a current Dawson student presentation and 2-a Dawson alumni (now at McGill) presentation.

Their names and projects appear in the official

Student Feedback: 1- I appreciate it very much to have been invited to participate in this conference. The conference went really well, it was well organized and welcoming. I liked the interaction and discussions with students from different universities, watching their presentations. In my opinion, conferences like this would be very beneficial and motivational for students in the years to come. Kind regards, Alexander Hassler

2- The conference was great! It was a good opportunity to practice giving a talk and to meet other people interested in math. I also had an amazing getting to know the other students from Dawson very well. I would go again. All the best, Sam

Looking forward to CUMC next year (it will most likely be in Montreal – UdeM!).
