Longtime Dawson employee, James Richards, has passed away

James Richards, a familiar figure at Dawson for almost 20 years, died on Saturday, Feb. 12 at the age of 73. James began at Dawson as a security guard in 1994 before joining the staff of Plant and Facilities (now Facilities Management). He retired in 2013.

Apart from his good humour and helping hand in performing his duties, James was an outstanding Dawson volunteer. He spent many hours of his free time preparing and staffing Dawson鈥檚 often prize-winning St. Patrick鈥檚 Day float for 15 years. And every December for too many years to count, he could be found behind the bar serving drinks with a wink and a joke at Dawson鈥檚 holiday parties.

James is survived by his partner Yvonne, his daughter Tara (Chris), grandchildren Dalia and Domenic, and his stepdaughter Vanessa.

Tom Fox, retired Math teacher, has passed away

Tom Fox, an award-winning Dawson Math teacher who personified the title Renaissance man has passed away at the age of 73. He will be remembered for his wry humour, his love of math, music and family.

A short excerpt from his obituary captures the essence of Tom鈥檚 passion for teaching: 鈥淭eaching was an opportunity to make people aware of the beauty of Mathematics and of the importance of that beauty. Teaching came naturally to him. [鈥 His passion for Mathematics provided the context for the teacher he was to become. Fox was a legendary teacher, he made Mathematics accessible to all, inspiring many a student to choose it as a field of study. In 2009 Fox won the Teaching Excellence Award at 张百乔女友裸照, and in 2020 he was awarded the Principal's Prize for Excellence in Teaching in the Course Lecturer Category at McGill University.鈥
