Recognition of Service 鈥 and a good time was had by all
August 24th, 2022
The large room in 3C.1 was dressed up in its finest to receive the 130 guests during the Recognition of Service reception and dinner. It was the largest gathering of its kind in Dawson history as the retirees from 2019-2022 were celebrated as were employees marking 25, 26 and 27 years of service.
The trend toward retirement truly showed itself as there were more than three times as many retirements, 101, as there were in the group marking the years of service, 33. The mood was light and convivial, and those in attendance were happy to reconnect after long absences due to campus shutdown or having taken retirement.
The last honouree to be presented with a gift and certificate was former Director General Richard Filion who retired in December 2020. He received a rousing introduction by Michael Goldwax, Chair of the Board of Governors, which was met with equally rousing remarks from Richard, who spoke of his admiration for the Dawson community, its spirit and its resolve, and to continue to fight the good fight for the benefit of our students.

Recognizing Catherine Moore for exceptional leadership in Nursing
May 18th, 2022
Catherine Moore has been working in Dawson鈥檚 Nursing Department since the fall of 1974. She has taught generations of students within the same family and seen others become colleagues. In light of National Nursing Week last week (May 9-15) and her upcoming retirement, Dawson would like to thank Catherine for her exceptional leadership and lifelong commitment to shaping Quebec鈥檚 future healthcare workers.
鈥淣ursing is finally getting recognized for the valued profession it is," she said. "This is solely due to all the nurses, teachers and students who have worked tirelessly and selflessly during the pandemic.鈥
Each year, over 60 Dawson Nursing students graduate after completing over 1,000 hours of direct patient contact, providing them with the knowledge, skills, and aptitudes to provide excellent care.
"Nursing allows you to deal with all aspects of the person; physical; emotional; mental; spiritual. As you put the whole picture together, you become an excellent advocate for patients' needs," said Catherine. "Nothing is more satisfying than having a patient say 'Thank you for being my nurse today.'"
