NoteDawson college is closed for April 18 and 21st holidays.

In this exhibition, Sarah-Mecca Abdourahman explores the complexities of memory and nostalgia in her everlasting search for a connection to her parent鈥檚 homelands, Somalia and India. 听A longing for home that can bring grief and joy. 听Delving into these contrasting emotions, Abdourahman鈥檚 work moves between themes of haunting and healing, evoking the bittersweet. 听Her yearning is woven into the fabric of multimedia-painted blankets and installations which allude to both the innocence of childhood, and its nightmares.

Daniel Oxley – Dark Wood

August 17th - September 9th, 2016

Excerpt from catalogue, by Cameron Skene

鈥淚f you鈥檙e going through hell, keep going鈥 鈥 Winston Churchill

The state of spiritual suspension is reinforced by Oxley鈥檚 recent work: vessels hung from the top of the picture plane, combined with a surface reassembled from disparate painterly strategies, marks, textures and forms. Caves and outcroppings, for instance, become a formal device as well as supporting metaphors for this place of pause.

Responsiveness to space and an engagement with its architecture, history and听ideologies is central to my practice. Recently, these interventions have explored听the beehive metaphor in architecture, with connections between the symbolic,听political and artistic spin-offs of the beehive. An eco-morphology contemplates听the hive, hive culture, desire and loss as metaphor for our utopian aspirations听to return to the garden.

Correspondences: Yechel Gagnon and Alexandre Masino

January 7th - February 6th, 2016
Correspondences - YG AM

Correspondences, by Yechel Gagnon and Alexandre Masino,听confronts us with the twofold challenge of seeing both distances听and proximities between the works of each听artist. While skeptics may be surprised at this particular pairing听of artists, they will likely be even more surprised, as well as听confounded, by the experience that awaits them: they will be听gently struck by the wealth and depth of the dialogues that take听shape between two bodies of work that, on the surface, have so听little in common.听
