All official communication for Peer Tutors will happen over MIO.
Please contact the Peer Tutoring Coordinators with any questions.
Before tutoring for the first time, tutors must take part in a tutor training workshop and submit all required forms.
New Tutor Instructions:
Returning tutors must be a full-time student (unless it is their last semester) and continue to be in good standing to be eligible to tutor.
Please, follow the instructions from the messages you receive from a peer tutoring coordinator.
- Submit Peer Tutor Application Form (on Omnivox)
- Update Direct Deposit and address information (only if different than last semester)
- (not required if you are a returning PET)
- Language Tutor Recommendation Fall 2023
- Assess the situation
Think in terms of realistic objectives; discuss what your learning goals are and how you will communicate - Use active listening techniques
Ask open ended questions to establish your tutee’s understanding of the subject matter and their study habits - Use questions to enhance problem solving
- Demonstrate or model similar processes
- Don鈥檛 be afraid to reveal that you don鈥檛 know something
You can refer the learner to more sources, including the teacher.
You can take the opportunity to learn/problem-solve, and bring back answers,
and demonstrate that you are in a learning process as well. - Give positive feedback, use encouraging vocabulary
- Find success and reinforce effort, in even minor accomplishments
- Summarize and review
- Encourage follow up
- Celebrate accomplishment!
- Keep records for future reference
